Wilbur G. Shaffer, age 79, of Wautoma, passed away Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee following a recent illness. He was born and raised in Michigan. He was married to Joan for 25 years. Wilbur has been married to his current wife, Jackie for 34 years. Wilbur worked for the Ann Arbor Railroad and Car Ferry for a number of years and then went to work for Clark Oil for about 12 years first running a service station and later becoming a district manager. Later, he switched to working for Mercury Marine for 27 years and becoming manager of engineering services. Part of that time he also ran a charter boat fishing service out of Two Rivers. After he retired in the end of 1999, he volunteered as construction project manager at the Lake Lucerne and Pine Lake Methodist Camps. Wilbur enjoyed the outdoors and particularly like boating, hunting, fishing, working in his woods and never tired of seeing nature and watching wildlife wandering through his property. He will always be remembered as a man who strove for excellence in everything he did, his mechanical abilities to figure out how something worked and be able to design, build or fix almost anything. He had a strong willingness to help and teach people who had less knowledge and experience in those areas, his dry sense of humor and words of wisdom. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; one sister; his daughter, Carla and another daughter that died shortly after birth. He is survived by two sisters, Bobby Anne and Sheryl; his wife, Jackie; children, Steve, Walter and Peggy, plus grandchildren, great grand- children and many special neighbors and friends. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. If desired, a memorial fund is being established in his name. Hardy plants are preferred if anyone wishes to send something as Wilbur loved to see growing things.
