Wanda Evonne Yonke, age 78 of Almond, died on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Michael's Hospital, Stevens Point. She was born on October 1, 1935 in Plainfield to Raymond and Lillian (Peterson) Crawford. On June 4, 1955 Wanda married Leland Yonke at the United Methodist Church, Plainfield. Wanda loved spending time with her family, playing lottery scratch-offs, Sunday polkas, completing word searches and gardening. As little, soft spoken and tiny as Wanda was, she was a true fighter through her three time battle with cancer, each time taking each day in stride. Wanda was a very proud member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She especially looked forward to the annual auxiliary bowling tournaments with her daughters and granddaughters. Wanda will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Wanda is survived by her four daughters: Marcia (Robin) Griswold, Almond, Marcella (Lenny) Carlton, Hancock, Melinda (David) Trebiatowski, Plover, Marilyn (Eric) Beggs, Bancroft; 13 grandchildren: the Peskie family: Jason (Mandy), Jody (Jay) Cisewski, Julie, Jeff (Serena), the Carlton family: Corey (Nicole), Sheldon (Amy), the Trebiatowski family: Heather, Hillary, the Cummings family: Krista (Andrew), Matthew (Amy), Andrea, Leah, and Brianna (Jesse); 18, soon to be 19 great grandchildren; siblings: Larry Crawford, Plainfield, Raymond "Chuck" (Judy) Crawford, Almond, Judy (Gordy) Fillar, Belguim, WI; brother-in-law: Norman (Verna) Yonke; sisters-in-law: Mina "Sue" (Ed) Miller, Carol (John) Carroll; sons-in-law: John (Lei) Peskie, Kevin (Kelley) Cummings; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her special downtown friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Leland Yonke on December 22, 1991 and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Almond. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Brian Roehrborn with burial to follow in Village of Almond Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 4-8PM at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield and again at church from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM.
