Violet Marie (Ness) Nelson, age 91, went to the Lord on December 22, 2013. She was born on April 14, 1922 in Grand Rapids, MI to Paul and Helen (Wilen) Ness, she was only there as a child. During the depression years they moved to Berwyn, IL where she graduated from Morton High School. Violet enjoyed bowling and ice skating. Violet worked as a secretary for the U.S. Government in Washington D.C. during WWII. She enjoyed volunteering her time at U.S.O. dances both in D.C. and later in the Chicago area. Violet married Arthur Henry Nelson on August 14, 1949 at Oak Park Avenue Baptist Church in Berwyn, IL. She and Art started their family in Wheaton, IL. In 1964 they moved to Porter's Lake, transforming a cottage into a family home. Violet enjoyed the outdoors, taking the German shepherd dogs for walks, tending her violet plants, becoming an ardent Packer football fan and caring for her family. Violet also helped Art with his real estate businesses. The family then moved to a farm just north of Wautoma for many years. In the mid-eighties, she and Art sought warmer temps and moved to Bull Shoals, AK. Arthur preceded her in death on March 29, 2004. Violet then moved back to Wisconsin to Park Vista Senior Living Center in Waupaca. There she enjoyed the last years with many friends, both old and new.
Violet is survived by her two sons: Curtis A. (Elaine) Nelson, Wautoma, Kevin P. (Barbara) Nelson, Pueblo, CO; special friends: Judy Bielmeier, Jack Schnieder a nephew, Noreen Holmgren, Naomi Meyer along with Elaine's children: Julie (Bill) Gardner Tim (MaryJo) Bauer and their son: Otto Bauer; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband: Arthur Nelson.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11Am at Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Church, Wautoma. Officiating at the service will Pastor Barb Girod. The family will greet relatives and friends from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM.
