Vergil E. Schroeder, age 89, of Neenah, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012, at UW-Hospital and Clinics, Madison. He was born Aug. 12, 1922 in the Town of Buena Vista, the son of Henry and Mary Schroeder. He married Dorothy Mae Brown of June 19, 1943 in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on November 25, 2008. Vergil was a graduate of Oshkosh High School. He was employed as manager at the Kroger Grocery Store and Food Queen, both of Oshkosh for a number of years. He also managed the 44 Outdoor Theater in Oshkosh. Later, he and his late wife owned Dot's Pancake House and Café of Oshkosh and Neenah. Together they owned and operated the Welcome Inn Supper Club in Menasha. He cleaned at Accertec in Appleton for several years. Vergil enjoyed country music, playing cards, dogs, and planting flowers of all kinds. He will be fondly remembered as the king of Bingo at Villa St. Clare where he resided. He is survived by three children, Nancy (Michael) Walters, Neenah, Wilbur (Penny) Schroeder, Ladysmith, Elwyn (Mary) Schroeder, Wild Rose. He is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; a special friend, Stacy Purdue, Oshkosh. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his canine companion, Farley; his parents; two sisters, Arlene and Agnes; two brothers, Clyde and Edward; his grandson, Mark Schroeder Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield with the Rev. Robert Krell officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The family wishes to thank Dr. William Nelson and Dr. Scott Harbick for their compassion and care. Also, the doctors of UW Hospital and especially the night staff, Lauren and Bestie. The family also appreciates the care Vergil was given at Villa St. Clare.
