Velma I. Schmackel, age 96, formerly of Bancroft, passed away Thursday evening, March 21, 2013 at St. Michael Hospital.
She was born February 9, 1917 in Illinois, the daughter of William and Emma (Huddleson) Johnston. She married Lyle Schmackel Sr. He preceded her in death on March 18, 1980.
She is survived by her children, Lyle (Elaine) Schmackel, Bancroft, Alberta Erickson, Hancock, Doris (Ray) Smeltzer, Indiana; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Mary Erickson; two sisters, Evelyn Lambert and Florence Voight and three brothers, Robert, Donald and William Johnston.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. in the Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield. Burial will be in the Plainfield Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of services at the funeral home
