Samuel Waala

October 29, 1938 — October 11, 2013

Samuel "Sam" L. Waala, age 74, passed away on October 11, 2013 at Silver Lake manor, Wautoma. He was born on October 29, 1938 in Mt. Morris to Laurence and Mary (Jenks) Waala. Sam graduated from Wautoma High School and then entered the U. S. Air Force and was honorably discharged. He married Helena Michalak on October 5, 1963 in Wautoma. He was employed by Adams Columbia Coop for over 30 years. He was a past president of the Wautoma Jaycees, former member of the Wautoma Lions Club and Volunteer Fireman with the Wautoma Fire Dept. for over 25 years.

Sam is survived by his wife: Helena Waala, Wautoma; sister: Margaret Rohde, AZ; brother: Russell (Lois) Waala Silva, MO; nieces and nephews: Denis Barton, Neenah, Linda (Dean) Westby, Tucson, AZ, Rhonda (Ken) Smith, Tucson, AZ, Shari (Anthony) Trennert, Phoenix, AZ, David Rohde, Whitewater, CO, Sharon (Dave) Ronan, Mt. Laurel, NJ, Brian (Sherri) Waala, Thief River Falls, MN, Brenda (Hiroshi) Uechi, Seattle, WA; numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law: Gerald Rohde.

Memorial services will be held at 11Am on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Rick Engen. The family will greet relatives and friends at the funeral home from 9:30AM until the time of services at 11AM. Memorials may be made to the Wautoma Fire Department in Sam's name.

A special thank you to the Agnesian Hospice Hope Staff and the staff at Silver Lake Manor for the care and compassion given to Sam during his time at the manor.
