Russell L. "Russ" Billman, Sr., age 75 of Plainfield, passed away Sunday afternoon, September 25, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side after a short, courageous battle with lung cancer.
He was born April 1, 1936 in Wild Rose, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Grace (Blair) Billman. He married Susana "Sue" Martinez on February 3, 1957 in El Paso, TX. Together they shared 54 years of love and marriage. She preceded him in death on July 2, 2011.
Russ hauled can milk at the age of sixteen and then joined the United States Air Force at the age of eighteen. He served eight years in various locations including England and El Paso, Texas, until being honorably discharged with the final rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed in El Paso, he met and married Sue. After having three children in El Paso, he moved back to Wisconsin in 1963 to make a home and live with his wife and raise his family. In Wisconsin, they had two more children. He worked at a paper mill and then was a self-employed bulk milk hauler for many years. Russ then drove pulp truck for McIntee Forest Products until his retirement. He was a man of strong faith and was a member of the Plainfield Baptist Church for many years. Russ enjoyed fishing trips in Minnesota, family get-togethers, traveling, playing cards, reading, dancing, hunting, skeet / target shooting, bowling, gardening, watching Nascar and football, singing, and making trips to the Casino. While in the service, he also enjoyed drag racing as a hobby. He had an awesome sense of humor and never failed to make anyone laugh.
He is survived by his children, Russell "Rusty", Jr. (significant other Ann) Billman, Plover; Jacqueline (LeRoy) Cayce, Almond; Diane (Mark) Roeske, Bancroft; and Debra (Joel) Kramer, Wisconsin Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one son-in-law, Conrad Wolosek. He is further survived by one brother, Walter (Linda) Billman; one sister, Marjorie (Clair) McIntee, special friends, Rodney & Jean McIntee; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his grandparents and parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue, just 12 weeks ago; one infant brother, Lawrence Billman, two brothers, Dale Billman and GlenBillman, one sister, Pearl Farago, one brother-in-law, Clair "Bud" McIntee, one sister-in-law, Melva Billman, one daughter Mary Lou Wolosek and one infant grandson, Matthew Roeske.
Funeral Services for Russell "Russ" Billman will be held on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 12:00pm in the Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield with a Veterans Tribute immediately following the service. Inurnment will take place at Plainfield Cemetery at a later date.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00am until the time of services at the Funeral Home.
