Roy was born on Sept. 7, 1948, in Oshkosh, the son of Lloyd and Shirley (McGee) Pitzen, who both preceded him in death.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne, from Sept. 9, 1965, until Sept. 8, 1971, including 14 months in Vietnam. He later attended the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, Moraine Park Technical College and Mercy Medical Center School of Nursing, graduating with several degrees in nursing. On June 3, 2007, he was united in marriage to his long-time companion, Celine Gedmin, in Wautoma.
Roy's passion was working in the healthcare field which included home health, skilled nursing homes and CBRFs. After holding management positions at Shar-R-Home CBRF (1991 to 1999) and Friendship Manor CBRF (1999), he became Director/Owner of Welcome Home CBRFs (2000-2006). He worked at Cummins in Wautoma until 2009 when he entered the AODA counselor program at FVTC, earning his SAC-IT certification. He then began his internship in the Fall of 2011 with the Veterans' Assistance Program in King.
Fishing, casinos, military TV programs, caring for his home, woods and pond, weekend road-trips with his wife, and talking with his daughter, Lori, every Sunday filled the hours between classes.
Roy is survived by his wife: Celine, Wautoma, daughter: Lori (Rick) Doherty, New York; step-children: Scott (Tara) Miller, Pam (Tim) Schmude, Beth (special friend Chris) Gedmin and Jill (John) Williams; grandchildren: Sara and Shian Doherty; step-grandchildren: Kaelyn, Nicholas, David, Valerie, Thomas, Kalinda, Laura, Kazimer and Kai.
