Rose Mary Guokas, age 90, of Plainfield, passed away Tuesday morning, Dec. 4, 2012, at Heartland House in Wautoma. She was born August 30, 1922 at Park Falls, WI to the late Edmund and Margaret (Polzin) Bodoh. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Marshfield, where she attended St. John's School and Marshfield High School, graduating with the class of 1940. During World War II she was a civilian employee of the U.S. Army in Chicago. She was married on Nov. 25, 1950 to Vytautas S. "Bud" Guokas at St. John's Catholic Church in Marshfield. The couple later moved to Michigan and Milwaukee, where she was employed by Manpower, Inc. for 12 years. After retirement, the couple moved to Plainfield in February of 1979. In Plainfield, she was active in Church groups, including St. Paul's Mission Team, and also served on the Waushara County Commission on Aging Board and its Advisory Council. She was a member of the Golden Agers, serving as vice president and secretary. She was last employed by the Village of Plainfield as secretary from 1981 until 1987. She enjoyed travelling, her grandchildren, reading and word puzzles of all
kinds, and flower gardening. She is survived by her husband, Bud; five children, Stanley (Monica), Theresa, Gerald (Bonnie), Charles (Linda) and Mary. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Brian, Mary, Rebecca, Jeffery, Stephen, Elizabeth, Gregory, and Erin Guokas; one step grandson, Graham (Deanna) Katzer; three step great grandchildren, Chelsea, Makayla and Austin Katzer; two brothers, Robert Bodoh and Dr. John Bodoh. She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard Lee, and by one sister, Barbara Wolfe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainfield. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield and at the Church on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of services. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home. A Memorial is being established.
