Ronald Lee Wichman, age 91 of Wautoma passed away on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Silver Lake Haven, Wautoma. He was born May 30 1933 at home in Appleton to Frederick and Helena (Krueger) Wichman. Ronald graduated from Appleton High School in 1951 and then attended Oshkosh Teachers College for 1 year then worked at Camp Waushara for his sister and brother-in-law. He then worked at the Bowling Alley in Redgranite where he met his future wife, Virginia "Gert" Tritt and they were married on May 4, 1963 in Redgranite at Congregational Church. In 1961 Ronald took over the Standard Oil Route in Redgranite and then Wautoma which later became Wichman Oil Company and was in business for 34 years. He was a Marion Town Board Member for 6 1/2 years and served in the Wisconsin Army National Guard for 71/2 years attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant and was honorably discharged. Ronald enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors and was a very talented wood carver. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
Ronald is survived by his wife of 61 years: Virginia "Gert" Wichman; daughter: Kelly Wichman, Harrison, ID; sons: Rand (Beth) Wichman, Harrison, ID, Ryan Wichman, Coeur d'Alene, ID; two grandchildren: Hans (Maggie) Wichman, Adeline Wichman; great granddaughter: Layla Wichman; his furry companion: Bimini; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters and other extended family members.
Memorial services will be held at 11AM on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church, Wautoma followed by military honors. The family will greet relatives and friends at church on Saturday, September 28th from 9:30AM until the time of services at 11AM.
The family wished the extend at heartfelt Thank You to Judy Batterman, Beth Batterman-Cook, Jeff and Patty Nett who were there to help Gert and the staff at Heartland House, Wautoma and Silver Lake Haven, Wautoma for the care and compassion given to Ronald during his time under their care.
