Rita Runnels

Rita Iona Runnels, age 97, of Coloma, died on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Wild Rose Manor. She was born on May 3, 1917 in Marshfield to Arthur and Inez (McCarthy) Murphy. After high school, Rita attended and graduated from Central State Teacher's College in Stevens Point. On August 8, 1939 she married Scott A. Runnels in Dubuque, IA. After raising her family, she became a librarian at Westfield High School in 1960 and worked there until she retired in 1980. In retirement, Rita enjoyed reading, gardening and traveling, especially to Ireland.



Rita is survived by her son: James Runnels, Coloma; daughters: Mary (Bill) Krubsack, Prescott, Catherine Runnels, Madison, Jean (Larry) Gohlke, Neshkoro, Ann Runnels, Coloma; daughter-in-law: Margaret (Ron) Nigbor, Coloma; grandchildren: Mary (Steve) Manifold, Tom (Lisa) Runnels, Mike (Sheryl Magzamen) Runnels, Bill (Tara) Runnels, Dave Runnels, Mandi ((Kevin) Cottrell, Josh (Jen) Nigbor, James Krubsack, Caroline Krubsack, Megan Gohlke, Katie (Tim Raducha-Grace) Gohlke, Maria Gohlke, Scott Gohlke, Alex Gohlke; 13 great grandchildren; sister-in-law: Lucille Murphy; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; Scott A. Runnels; son: Scott Patrick Runnels; brothers: James Murphy, John Murphy and sisters: Loretta Lewandowski and Patricia Meyer.
