Richard L. "Dick" "Bird" Kroes, age 80, of Wautoma, formerly of Racine, passed away Wednesday evening, Nov. 21, 2012, at Theda-Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
He was born March 14, 1932 in Racine, the son of John and Frances (Orth) Kroes. He married Patricia A. (Perkins) Battisti on Aug. 25, 1985 at Union Grove. Dick served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He resided in Racine for many years where he was employed at Madsen Construction and later by Mainline Sewer & Water. Richard and his wife moved from Kansasville to rural Wautoma in 1994. An avid outdoorsman, Bird enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and landscaping. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma and he also belonged to the Wild Turkey Federation. He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Kroes, Wautoma; children, Connie (Bob) Buchholz, Racine, Nancy (Tim) Thompson, Racine, Jerry (Connie) Battisti, Juneau, Mike (Jody) Battisti, Mayville, Terry Demant (Kurt Gulbrands), Racine; grandchildren, Carrie Buchholz, Kelli (Mike) Woodall, Jerry Battisti III (fiancé, Nicole Putra), Tony Battisti, Scott Battisti, Steven (Katie) Battisti, Crystal Demant ( Damien Rushing), and Karen Demant; great grand- children, Ahnalee, Lacy, Mason, and Taylor; two brothers, Jim (Mary) Kroes, Racine, Bob (Bonnie) Kroes, Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two grandsons, Jimmy Muleski and Brian Battisti; his parents; one sister, Joann Treffert; and by two brothers, John Kroes and Bill Kroes. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma with Rev. Robert L. Stegmann officiating. Military honors will follow the services at the Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
