Philip John Thoma, age 71, of Plainfield, passed away Saturdya morning, January 22, 2011 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
Philip was born on September 9, 1939 in Milwaukee the son of Philip and Lorraine (Petrozak) Thoma. He married Donna Hennes on August 19, 1961.
Philip was a successful business owner of Richfield Service, Richfield Rent-A-Car, Golden Sands Honey and Richfield Service Motors. Mr. Thoma took great pride and care in helping others in the communities where he was a member of the Richfield and Plainfield Lions Clubs for 30 years. Phil was a faithful member of St. Paul's Catholic Parish, Plainfield and the St. Paul's Knights of Columbus as a Fourth Degree Knight. He was also a member of the EAA, American Bee Keepers Federation and the Wisconsin Honey Producers.
Philip had a great love for his family and was proud of them all. He enjoyed building his powered glider plane, restoring old vehicles and attending car shows. He was well known for his great sense of humor, and great mechanical ability to create and build things.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna Thoma, Plainfield; his children, Philip (Patty), Donald (Celeste), Karen (Mark) Burns, Sharon Griffith, Paul (Michelle); his grandchildren, Ryan, Phil, Carrie, Tracy, Kevin, Troy, Scott, Alex, Jack, Ariana and Ava; the eldest sibling of 11, he is survived by Connie, John, Peter, Tony, Mary Wanner, Susie Roe, Chuck and Bill; sister-in-law, Patti and Marjorie Thoma; his mother-in-law, Marion Hennes; other relatives and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Emmeran Hennes and his wives, Beatrice Dworschack Hennes and Dorothy Winkler Hennes and brothers, Larry and Tom.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 28, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with a Knights of Columbus service to begin at 11:15 a.m. with a Memorial Mass to follow. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for St. Paul's Catholic Church.
