Noel Lee Stubbe, age 66 of Hancock, died Sunday, April 14, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer with his family at his side.
Noel was born on September 24, 1946 in Wausau to Harry A. and Violet M. (Pagel) Stubbe. After high school, Noel entered the U.S. Marine Corp in 1965 and served in Vietnam where he was awarded two Purple Hearts, the Silver Star and was honorably discharged in 1969. On October 24, 1970 he married Kathy T. Strehlow at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Wausau. Noel worked at Waupun Correctional Institution as a Sergeant and retired in 1999 after 29 years of service. He was a founding member of Hancock Area Veteran's Assoc. (HAVA), Life member of the Plainfield V.F.W. and a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Wautoma. Noel enjoyed watching the Packers and loved just looking at the lake and enjoying life from his own back yard.
Noel is survived by his loving wife: Kathy Stubbe, Hancock; sister: Dianne (Charles) Wilichowski, Marathon; brother: Robert Rast, Steubenville, OH; mother-in-law: Esther Strehlow; sisters-in-law: Carol (Stan) Scheel, Mary (Charles) Wolfe, all of Wausau; his dog and loving companion: Sophie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his son: Chad Stubbe; parents; father-in-law: Raymond Strehlow; sister-in-law: Martha Rast and brother-in-law: James Scheel.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
