Merlin David Goodwin passed away on December 22, 2020. He was born October 1, 1936 to William Goodwin and Susan (Rhode) Goodwin in Wautoma. He attended Wautoma High School from 1952 to 1953. He enlisted in the Wisconsin Army National Guard in 1955, and was a member of the 232nd Co. C. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1962. Merlin worked as a mechanic for many years in Wautoma, and Oshkosh. In 1977 he purchased Dahlke-Fraiser garage in Poy Sippi with his old Army buddy. They ran the garage together until his retirement in 1987. Merlin married Margaret (Greene) Chmielak on June 26, 1978 and he started his life as a husband and dad until Margaret’s death on November 25, 2020. Merlin spent his retirement building their retirement home, working on vintage cars, riding his Harley with friends, and was a long-time member of the Wild Rose Gun Club.
Merlin is survived by his step-daughter: Charlotte (Lotty) Chmielak, his brother: Jerry Goodwin, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father William, his mother Susan, his wife Margaret, brothers Billy and Donald Goodwin; and sisters Mavis Woods, and Ginny Krueger
Funeral services will be held at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 11:00 AM with a visitation from 10AM until the time of service at 11. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made the Wild Rose Gun Club
