Merle D. Footit Jr., age 84, of Plainfield, passed away, Monday morning, April 30, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He was born December 30, 1927 in Portage County, the son of Merle and Lydia (Christensen) Footit Sr. He married Lisa (Kizewski) on June 12, 2009 in Wautoma. Merle served his country in the U.S. Army from 1946 until 1949, and later during the Korean War working with the Engineer Construction Batallion. He was employed at the former Plainfield Lumber Co. for four years and at Nekoosa Corp. until 1986. Later, he worked in the Customer Service Dept. of Mill Supply in Nekoosa until his retirement on December 31, 1991. Merle loved farming and he operated a well known self service asparagus stand which had many loyal customers throughout the years. He also enjoyed cutting wood. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Almond and the Plainfield VFW. He is survived by his wife, Lisa Footit, Plainfield; three children, Ingrid Footit, Wautoma, Walter (Cynthia) Footit, Plainfield, Stacey (Jim) Howard, Bancroft; two grand children, Katie Footit and Wyatt Howard; one sister, Betty Zimmerman, Bancroft. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by two brothers, Earl and Dale Footit. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Almond with Rev. Brian Roehrborn officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Spiritland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield and on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A Memorial is being established.
