MAYME ERMA ENGLE

Aug.22,1905-Sept.2,2010

Mayme Erma Engle went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sept. 2, 2010. She was 105 years at the time of her passing and resided at Preston Place in Redgranite. She was truly blessed with long life. She was born to Robert and Lydia Luhm on Aug. 22, 1905 in the Township of Dakota.

Mayme often talked about farm life in the early 1900's. While work was hard, she spoke fondly of those days. She enjoyed spending time in the woods near the farm picking wild flowers and berries. Mayme worked with a team of horses, stacked hay, and churned butter. She baked bread at age 11. There were 11 brothers and sisters in the family. She was the only survivor. Mayme went to the Sonora School and attended the Evangelical United Brethren Church with her parents and family.

Mayme Engle touched the lives of many. She faithfully cared for family and neighbors. She also served in the Women's Ministries of her church. She faithfully shared the message of Jesus and could often be heard singing hymns and quoting Scripture verses. In the weeks and days before her passing she prayed spontaneous prayers. She was a charter member of Crossroads Family Church. Mayme would desire to thank all those who spoke a kind word, encouraged her, and cared for her. She would want all to know how grateful she was to them for making her life meaningful and blessed. She endeared herself to staff and friends at Preston Place. Mayme loved her family and took wonderful care of her children. She was a master of nursing skills which brought her children through many childhood illnesses and injuries. She will be missed more than words can express. Ms. Engle was married to Ensine L. Engle on March 27, 1932. He preceded her in death Nov. 21, 1987. The couple lived and raised their children on a small farm near Spring Lake.

Mayme is survived by her four children: Durward (Wilma) Engle of Oshkosh; Elward (Carol) Engle of Wautoma; Eloise M. Engle of Wautoma; and Melva (Bruce) Johnson of Duluth, MN. She has nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Another grandchild is expected in September.

"With long life will I satisfy her and show her my salvation "Psalms 1:16.
