Wautoma

 

Marlene Ann Nelson of Wautoma, died unexpectedly at Appleton Medical Center on the morning of Wednesday September 27th, 2023.

She was born in Portage, Wisconsin to Raymond and Hilda (Krueger) Ronspies. She grew up in Montello and graduated from Montello High School.  Marlene married Donald Nelson on June 22nd, 1973 and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

Marlene worked for a time as a teller at the former Union State Bank in Wautoma. Then for 43 years she was her husband’s office manager for his Veterinary practice in Wautoma.  She was also a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma as well as a member of its Kitchen Band.  Marlene survived breast cancer almost 40 years ago and used that experience to speak with numerous women who were going through the disease.  She loved doing jigsaw puzzles, taking driving trips, fishing and going out to eat.  She always said she would be remembered for her deviled eggs and potato salad.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Donald Nelson, her son Trent Nelson, Wautoma, her sister Carolyn (Larry) Barger, Montello, her sister-in-law LaVonne Nelson, her nieces Brenda (Jeff) Steele, Jayne (Tom) Fleming, Jan Nelson, Deann (Dave) Bergeson, Karen (Tom) Brokaw, nephews Tom (Janet) Nelson, Greg (Judy) Nelson, Rob Nelson, Art (Vickie) Boetzer and Bill Boetzer. She is further survived by her cousins John Ronspies, Brian Ronspies, Marie and Eugene Mashuda and Dick Groskreutz and numerous great nieces and nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Elmer & Agnes Nelson, brother-in-law Loren Nelson and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Art & Ingrid Boetzer.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 7th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma with Pastor Tom Klusmeyer officiating.  Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Town of Dakota at a later date.

Visitation will be on Saturday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. If desired, memorials may be given to Peace Lutheran Church, Wautoma. The Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. www.leiknessfuneralhome.com
