Mark Donald Jarvis, age 60, of Wautoma passed away Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Neenah.
Mark was born June 08, 1963 in Wautoma to Adwina & Robert Jarvis. He was a 1982 graduate of Wautoma High School. Mark was a carpenter and craftsman. He loved working with wood and doing finish carpentry. While attending high school he participated in the “Big North” home building project and learned many of the skills he used throughout his years as a builder. He joined the building crew at Waushara Home Building Center a few years later. He was a loyal and trustworthy employee and stayed through the transition in 2006 to JMC Building Center until it closed in 2009. He then started Jarvis Builds and subcontracted to DMT Custom Builders and then Konieczki Construction. For the past nine years he subcontracted to Jess Johnson Construction. He loved working with the crew. Mark was liked and loved by many. Over the years he acquired numerous light hearted nicknames, with “Jarv” and “Walt” being among the favorites. Mark was a good man and loved to help others. In his 30’s, he especially enjoyed helping friends on nights and weekends build their own homes. Those were good times he loved being a part of.
In the spring of 1992, Mark met his future wife, Valerie Starkweather. Their first date was in September that year and they married on April 23, 1994. Their prayers were answered with the birth of their son, Charles, many years later.
Soon after they wed, Mark joined Val in her love for travel, whether it be near or far. They enjoyed many trips over the years, including celebrating their 25th anniversary in Maui and Kona, Hawaii. Only recently he discovered a love for cruising with his family and was happy to have shared with them an Alaskan cruise and a Disney cruise in the Caribbean within the last 11 months.
Mark was a loving, devoted husband and father. He was the kind of man who would often choose to not do something he wanted to do, just so he could be with his family elsewhere. He enjoyed spending time with his family at Cub Scouts, 4-H, sporting activities, school activities, church events, fun family weekend outings and, of course, vacations. He completed many home projects for his family, including building an addition to their home after Charles was born. He loved making their house a home, together as a family.
He was a man of faith and a member of Mt. Morris Holden Lutheran Church, Mt. Morris. He served on the cemetery committee there for several years. In his early years, he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Wautoma. Both churches were a blessing to him.
Mark was an EAA member who was fond of watching air shows and viewing vintage planes at EAA AirVenture. He enjoyed volunteering with the Young Eagles Raffle at EAA AirVenture, together with Val, since 2006. He also was a League Bowler for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Jarvis; his son, Charles Jarvis; brothers, Steven (Bette) Jarvis, David Jarvis; sisters, Kathy Rogers, Linda Jarvis, Carol Jarvis; father-in-law, Craig Starkweather; mother-in-law, Bonnie Starkweather; brother-in-law, Bentley (Rita) Starkweather; nephew, Nathaniel Starkweather; nieces, Stephanie (Matt) Paulson, Kristina (Ryan) Messer, Rosalie Starkweather; great nieces, Sasha Paulson, Noelle Paulson, Melody Paulson; many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Jarvis; mother Adwina Jarvis; brother-in-law Ronnie Rogers.
