This is a short story about a precious life.
Marie was born in the little town of Medford, Wisconsin on August 8, 1923 to Elmer and Eleanor Kautzer. She grew up with her brothers, Ken, Keith and sisters, Josephine and Sue. On August 23, 1941, in Brown Point, Indiana, Friedrich August Zittlow "Fred" and Marie were wed. She and Fred raised three children: Larry, Merlin "Leon" and Jo Ann. It was a homespun life of hard work woven with music, laughter, cats, dogs, friends, family and love. Marie was the spark to this ever evolving mix.
Fred died on April 17, 1974. Marie continued to be a safe haven and soft spot for her ever growing family of grand, great and great great grandchildren. "Grandma Z - Grandma Grape" loved these kids.
Many loved her for her smile, her spunk and her open arms of affection.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Julie), Leon (D.) and daughter: Jo Ann as well as their children and children's children. Sister, Josephine and brother, Ken are among many other surviving relatives.
We all celebrate this well-lived life. Now, someone else will bring MARIE'S POTATO SALAD to the gatherings at the lake. The warm memories and stories will long survive her.
May she rest in peace.
