Marie Sadie (Quick) Fritz, age 76, passed away from this world on the morning of October 8th, 2011. She joins her husband, Lyle, who passed away earlier this year on May 18th. They would have celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on November 10th of this year.
Marie was born on August 10th of 1935 to Floyd and Sadie (McCandles) Quick. She grew up in a family of four brothers and two sisters. In 1956, at the age of 21, she married Lyle DuWayne Fritz at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma.
Once married, Lyle and Marie settled into family life on the farm near Wautoma. Lyle worked for the Rural Electric Cooperative, and Marie kept very busy at home. She learned to take care of the livestock and their first son was born a month before their first anniversary.
By 1970, they had four sons and a daughter - Duane, Donald, Alan, John, and Jean. Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and country homemaker. Her days were filled with cooking, baking, sewing, and taking care of her children and home. She also helped with the livestock and fieldwork, and always had a large garden at the farm. Each fall, she would have the shelves in the cellar full of canned goods.
Marie was active in the Ladies Aid group at Trinity Lutheran Church, and coordinated the Easter Sunrise breakfast for some years. Lyle and Marie were also involved with Boy Scouts for many years with their sons. Marie and the kids kept busy in the summer in the 'pickle patch'.
She was often referred to as the 'pickle lady on Highway 22', where she sold pickling cukes from the garage.
Marie outlived her four brothers - Earl, Melvin, Charles, and Bill, and a sister - Margie. In addition to losing her husband earlier this year, she laid a son (Donald) to rest in 2008.
She is survived by her remaining children: Duane Fritz (with special friend Leath) of Wautoma WI, Alan Fritz (with special friend Heather) of Wautoma WI, John & Carol Fritz of Medford, WI, and Dave & Jean (Fritz) Chappa of Mosby, MT; a daughter-in-law, Karla Petersen. She is also survived by a sister - Thelma (Julian) Rivera an aunt - Mamie Schoerner, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, much extended family and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:00am in Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Hyatt officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Wautoma Union Cemetery.
