M. Elizabeth Lawrence Sabel, age 90, passed away November 13, 2013, at Bridgewood Nursing and Rehab Center, Neenah, WI.
She was born Jan. 7, 1923 in New Concord, OH, the daughter of David C. and Nancy M. (Kennedy) Proudfit. She married Robert C. Lawrence on May 3, 1944. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1997. Elizabeth married Gilbert Sabel Sr. on Sept. 4, 2005. He passed away on February 1, 2012.
Elizabeth graduated from Monroe Rural High School (Otsego, OH) in 1940. She entered Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Zanesville, OH, graduating as Valedictorian of her class in 1943. She worked as a Registered Nurse in various locations throughout the state of Ohio for over 45 years. In 1989 she and Bob moved to Wautoma, WI to be closer to their grandchildren.
She enjoyed baking, cross stitch, embroidery, crocheting, traveling, and gardening. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ and the Ladies Guild, Redgranite, WI.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Larry (Beth) Lawrence, Arlington Heights, IL, Nancy (Fred) Umland, Neenah, WI, David (Anna) Lawrence, Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, Jennifer Lawrence (special friend Brendan Gildea), Melissa Lawrence (Jason) Harlow, Stacy (Josh) Carson, Craig (Erin) Umland, Tiffany Rivera, Christopher (Shannon) Tucker; five great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rollin (Lucille) Lawrence; step-children, Thomas Sabel, Michael Sabel, Gilbert (Linda) Sabel Jr., Christine (Ron) Abitz, David (Eileen) Sabel; many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, including Laura Schneider who became her "personal beautician" in recent years. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redgranite, WI with Rev. Dorothy Heckner Mendonca officiating. Interment will be at Marion Cemetery, Town of Marion.
Relatives and friends may greet the family at the Church on Saturday, November 30 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Redgranite, WI.
The family extends a sincere thank you to the staff of Touchstone Assisted Living, North Fond du Lac, WI, and Bridgestone Nursing and Rehab Center, Neenah, WI, for the loving care and concern they provided for Elizabeth.
