Lorraine Ashley, age 96, of Hancock, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Heartland House in Wautoma.
She was born December 30, 1916 to Benjamin and Hannah (Mirgeler) Hales,Village of Hancock.
Lorraine graduated from Hancock High School in 1934. She worked at Walkers Store in Hancock for three years. She attended and graduated from Waushara County Normal-Wautoma and Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point. She taught school at Richford, Hancock Grade School and Tri-County Grade School.
On Nov. 5, 1941, Lorraine married Russell Ashley at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Plainfield. Lorraine and Russell lived most of their married lives in Hancock except when they lived in Louisiana until Russell went overseas during World War II and Lorraine was employed at Badger Ordinance of Baraboo.
She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. Paul's Mission Team and Waushara County Retired Teachers.
She is survived by her daughter Mary Lynne (Andrew) Fell of Madison, WI; and her sister-in-law Myrna Ashley along with other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Ashley on May 21, 1998; her son, Gale Ashley; one brother, Ben Hales; one sister, Evelyn (Hales) Ball, and by her nephew, Hal Hales.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Plainfield. Burial will be in Hancock Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield and at the Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. A Prayer Service will be held on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial is being established.
