Lois Louise Bartel, age 74, of Wautoma, died peacefully Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in Appleton.
She was born Sept. 18, 1945 in Berlin. She was the daughter of Elmer E. and Esther C. (Helmrick) Wandrey and grew up on the Wandrey Homestead in the Town of Dakota. She married David A. Bartel on April 11, 1981 at Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma.
Lois was a 1963 graduate of Wautoma High School and later graduated from nursing school in the Fox Valley where she became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Lois worked as a nurse in Wautoma at the Wautoma Care Center, Shara Home, Silver Lake Manor and Oak Ridge Manor. She also provided in-home health care for area senior citizens.
Lois was a 25-year volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church where she served on the church council and helped with Hope Women’s Service and Hope Prayer Shawl Ministry. Lois served as a volunteer for the Waushara County Fair, Waushara County Crime Stoppers, Wautoma Road Runners 4-H and the National Wild Turkey Federation. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, reading, knitting, crocheting and most of all, visiting with her family and friends. Lois will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, outgoing personality, love of conversation, devotion to family and friends, excellent memory, knowledge of community and people, and taking care of others – especially the elderly.
She is survived by her husband, David A. Bartel, Wautoma; four sons, Aaron Bohn, Redgranite, Brian (Penny) Bohn, Holmen, Daron (Adrienne) Bohn, Appleton and Ryan Bohn, Galesville; grandchildren, Barret Bohn (fiancée, Juleigha Loewenhagen), BriAnn Bohn, Arden Bohn and an expected grandson at Thanksgiving; step-grandchildren, Megan Paeth, DJ Paeth, Jesse Schafer and Cassie Schafer; one brother, Dale (Vicki) Wandrey, Wautoma; sister-in-law, Nancy (Gerry) Hansen, Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law, Daniel (Sandy) Bartel, Dousman. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents and by her infant son, Alan Bohn.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma with Rev. P. Michael Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Dakota South Cemetery, Town of Dakota.
Visitation will be held on Friday at the Church from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services. Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. leiknessfuneralhome.com
