Leslie A. Coates, with his family at his side, passed away Friday, February 25, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis and pneumonia complications. He was born February 27, 1939 in Montreal, Canada, the son of Basil and Muriel (Chapman) Coates. He married Lorna E. Paris. Following his marriage, he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, where he operated a data processing school for a number of years. Later, he moved to Berlin where he was salesman for Sentry Insurance. Les loved Lake Michigan fishing and during the summer months he operated Instant Fun Sport fishing charters part time with his son, Michael. After leaving Sentry Insurance he operated Alaska Sport Fishing Tours out of Anchor Point/Homer, Alaska during the summers. Following retirement, he moved to rural Wautoma and continued his love of Lake Michigan fishing on a personal level and as an independent health insurance agent until ill health. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lorna E. Coates; one daughter, Lisa (Buddy) Crowder, Kenai, Alaska; one son, Michael Coates, Homer, Alaska; one grandson, Casey; one granddaughter, Kelsey. Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma with Rev. R. Alan Spitler officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
