June Rose Matz, age 94, of Wautoma, formerly of Richford, passed away early Wednesday morning, February 8, 2017 at Heartland House in Wautoma.
She was born June 26, 1922 in Montello the daughter of Gustav and Elizabeth (Stock) Zarbrook. At age 7, on December 24, 1939, June was adopted and welcomed into the home of Albert and Ella Mittelstedt of Richford.
At age 15, June became a caregiver in the home of Pastor Metzler of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Richford where became very active in the Church. Later, she became acquainted with her future husband, Gilbert Matz. They were married on September 21, 1940 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
June and her husband resided on the family farm in the Town of Richford for more than 20 years. She was very active in Homemakers, St. Peter's Lutheran Women and she served as treasurer for the Town of Richford. After giving up farming, the Matz family moved to Milwaukee where June worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years. Upon retirement, they returned to their beloved Richford and once again became involved with church and community. June served as treasurer at St. Peter's Church. She and Gilbert belonged to Waushara/Wautoma Senior Citizens where they enjoyed playing cards with friends. She had resided at Heartland House in Wautoma for the past 10 years.
She is survived by three sons, Ronald (Patricia) Matz, Dennis (Barbara) Matz, and Gregory (Kristen) Matz; one daughter, Christy (Jerry) Burmeister; a daughter-in-law, Paige Matz. She is further survived by 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends.
June was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Gilbert Matz; and by her son, Alan Matz.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the Town of Richford with Rev. Blaine O. Niskanen officiating. Burial will be in Richford Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
