Joyce passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at her home in Arborwood Lodge, Wisconsin Rapids.
Joyce was born October 18, 1934 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin to Harley and Audrey (Bender) Ellis. Joyce graduated from Tri-County High School in 1953. She married Merl Hansen on June 26, 1953 in Plainfield, Wisconsin.
Joyce was a homemaker with many passions, including quilting, sewing, dancing, pie baking, puzzles, playing cards and bowling. She still enjoyed bowling in womens' league at age 77.
Joyce will be sadly missed by her children: Ken (Jean) Hansen, Brenda (Dennis) Gerard, Keith (Janet) Hansen, all of Wisconsin Rapids, Kevin (Penny) Hansen, Lenexa, Kansas, Barb (Wayne) Challoner, Copper Center, Alaska and son-in-law Kevin Garrigan, Nekoosa. Grandchildren: Ciji, Cody, Adam, Tim, Nathan, Matt, Emma, Keagan and Kelsey. Great grandchildren: Little Timmy and Oakley. Siblings: Pearl McLaughlin, Charlotte (Russell) Marshall, and Bob Ellis. In-Laws: Jenny Hansen, Jerry (Virginia) Hansen, Larry Hansen and Wayne Kramer. Joyce's positive attitude and kindness will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Bonnie Garrigan; four sisters, Irma, Raeburn, Gladys and Alice; four brothers, Arlin, Donald, Wayne, and Milton.
The Hansen family would like to thank Joyce's many caregivers, especially the staff at Arborwood Assisted Living for all of their kind help and support.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home, Plainfield, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
