John D. Wingate, age 66, of Wautoma and formerly of Beloit, passed away late Tuesday evening, July 24, 2012 at Ripon Medical Center.
He was born in Kenosha on August 3, 1945, the son of Matthew and Catherine (Gallatin) Wingate.
John graduated from St. Joseph High School in Kenosha and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marines Corps where he was stationed throughout the United States. After his service, he attended UW-Parkside where he received his Bachelors Degree.
John worked at various newspapers as an Advertising Director in Kenosha and Beloit for many years. In 2004 he relocated to the Wautoma area where he resided on Marl Lake. In his spare time he tended bar at Billy B's in Wautoma. John was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and never missed watching a game on T.V. He also enjoyed boating on the lake, spending time with his faithful canine companions Sheeba and Brandy and had a passion for carpentry. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by the love of his life, Patty Carlson; five children, Michael Wingate, Michelle (Curtis Williams) Mersereau, Nicholas Wingate, Christina (Anthony) Zarinnia and Monica (Peyton) Hatcher; 10 grandchildren, Justin, Miles, Quentin, Addison, Douglas, David, Claire, Nolan, Tess and Lyla; one brother Bob (Janet) Wingate; one niece Becky Wingate, two nephews, Ian (Heather) Wingate and Ryan Wingate. He is further survived by his special canine companion Sheeba; other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandmother Katherine Gallatin and his faithful canine companion Brandy.
A Memorial Service for Mr. John D. Wingate will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma with Rev. Eric Hambrock officiating.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Funeral Home
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society are appreciated.
