John Martin

John J. Martin, age 77, of Hancock, passed away Monday afternoon, Feb. 20, 2012 at Crystal River Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Waupaca. He was born March 23, 1934 in Rockford, IL the son of James and Annie (Gibson) Martin. He married the former Rayona Jenkins in 1960. She preceded him in death in 1984. John moved to Hancock in 1960 and was a truck driver for many years. Later, he operated JJ's Chuck Wagon in Hancock. John was active with Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Wautoma.
He is survived by one son, Michael (Catherine) Martin, Hancock; two grand- children, Bryan Martin, Hancock, Heather Mentzel, Stevens Point; three great grandchildren, Evan, Donovan, and Nataya; one sister, Susan Dean, Mauston. He is further survived by other relatives and friends in Hancock and Wautoma. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Delores Nelson, and by his companion, Edna Scott. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield with Rev. Eric L. Hambrock officiating. Burial will be in Colburn/ Leola Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
