John W. Brown, age 63, of Hancock, died suddenly on Thursday, February 9, 2012, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home. He was born August 9, 1948 in Hancock, the son of Joseph and Viola (Spaulding) Brown. He married Judith J. Prochazka on June 16, 1973 in Milwaukee. John attended school in Hancock and later entered the US Army and served his country from 1968-1970. John spent his working years doing various jobs around the state. He spent the majority of the time farming in the area. After retirement he enjoyed driving for residents of the local Amish Community. John loved the outdoors and especially liked hunting, fishing, and growing roses. He will be fondly remembered for his friendly nature and telling jokes. John was an accomplished poet. His late sister and he published a book of poetry. He was the current Commander of Rogers/Oestreich American Legion Post 343 Hancock/Coloma and served the position for many years. He also belonged to the Kusel Lake Fishing Club. John is survived by his wife, Judy Brown, Hancock; three daughters, Julie (Kevin) Berger, Wautoma, Jody (Ron) Congdon, Berlin, Janice (Chris) Button, Berlin; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Colin, Zephen, and Keana Berger, Bryce Congdon, Kira and Kendall Button; one brother, Wilbur (Karen) Brown, Hancock; four sisters, Kathy Jacobson, Rockford, IL, Doris (Harold) Schafer, Almond, Anna Schwersenska, Richford, Eleanor (Roland) Burns, Las Vegas, NV; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Meyers, Nekoosa, Richard (Trilogy) Prochazka, Tomahawk. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Meyers;
five brothers, George, Joseph, Hollis, Howard, and Arleigh. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Leikness & Stahl Funeral Home in Plainfield with Rev. Blaine Niskanen officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Fish Lake Cemetery, Township of Deerfield.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home in Plainfield.
