Joan Johnson

Joan M. Johnson, age 86, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

She was born March 5, 1935 in Siren, WI the daughter of Vernon and Marie (Simonsen) Nyberg. She married Dale Monroe Johnson on September 2, 1967. He preceded her in death on November 24, 2018.

Joan graduated first in her class at Siren High School. She entered the nursing program at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and received her nursing degree from the University of Minnesota. Later, she received a Doctorate in Nursing at UW-Madison. Joan was Assistant Professor of Nursing at UW-Oshkosh for many years until her retirement.

An avid sports fan, Joan loved the Wisconsin Badgers. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and volunteering for many church activities and being a member of the Swedish Club.  Joan was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma and belonged to United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her son, Dwight (Sherry) Johnson, Sun Prairie; one granddaughter, Katherine Croley (fiancé, Michael Loney), Madison; one grandson, Jon Pineda (fiancé, Olivia Frassetto), serving in the US Navy in Groton, CT.; one brother, Charles (Sue) Nyberg, Eau Claire; one nephew, Jay (Letty) Nyberg, Houston, TX; one niece, Missy (Ken) Stanton, Eau Claire.

In addition to her husband, Joan was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 19, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma with Rev. Stephanie Taylor officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona, WI. All monetary donations received will be forwarded to the Siren Scholarship Fund for Siren High School students pursuing nursing education.

Visitation will be at the Church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. The Leikness Funeral Home of Wautoma is assisting the family with arrangements. www.leiknessfuneralhome.com
