Joan Elizabeth Bohn, age 93, formerly of Hancock, passed away Monday, September 23, 2024 at Keystone Place in Hugo, Minnesota.
She was born December 23, 1930 in Pine River, the daughter of Edwin Davis and Margaret Marie (McNutt) Jewell. She married Bernold M. “Ben” Bohn on September 12, 1953 in Pine River. He preceded her in death on April 17, 2011.
Joan was Ben’s business partner in running Bohn Auto & Implement Sales and Service and in managing the family farm. She began her teaching career in Hancock, enjoyed her time with students, and continued to substitute for many years. Joan was always involved in their children’s activities, was an antique dealer, and sold Avon. She had a strong faith in God and loved her church, holding many leadership positions at Grace Lutheran Church in Deerfield, including Sunday School Superintendent, Ladies Aid and LWML President, and a Church officer. She had a deep love for family, loved being around people, was a full-time reader, loved cooking and cookbooks, decorated cakes for many occasions, and enjoyed traveling with Ben, or with her beloved sister Judy.
She is survived by three children: Beth (Gary Macheel) Bohn, Los Angeles, CA, Dena (Michael Phillips) Bohn, Hugo, MN, Craig (Debra) Bohn, Seattle, WA; two grandchildren: Caleb Bohn Hesch, Minneapolis, MN and Paige (Sean) Latif, Seattle, WA; and one sister: Judy (the late Edward) LaFrombois, Fitchburg, WI; sister-in-law, Adell Jewell, Pine River. She also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many dear friends.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jean (Ewan) Glass; one brother, Charles "Carl" Jewell; brother-in-law, Edward LaFrombois.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma with Rev. Daniel L. Bohn officiating with a reception and luncheon to follow.
