Irene A. Spees passed away February 2, 2014, at age 90. She was born September 28, 1923, on the Bushweiler family farm near Wautoma, WI.
Irene married Clifford Spees September 28, 1941. Together they raised their two sons, Larry and Dale, on the Spees family farm near Wautoma. Irene and Clifford were honored when Spees Farms was designated as a Wisconsin Century Farm. After her sons were grown, Irene became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at Wild Rose Hospital and the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, square dancing, golfing, gardening, painting, knitting and fabric arts. Irene founded the Great Grannies Golf League at Waushara Country Club and was an active member of the Christian Women's Club and Grace United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, visiting Germany and every one of the lower 48 states. She and her husband became snowbirds in retirement and spent many happy winters together in the Southwest.
Irene was preceded in death by her father Arley Bushweiler, mother Florence (Kapp) Bushweiler, husband Clifford Spees, brother Maynard Bushweiler, brother-in-law Clifford Turner, and sisters-in-law Audrey Bushweiler and Florence Bushweiler.
She is survived by her sons Larry (Elizabeth) Spees of Wautoma, WI and Dale (Dixie) Spees of Westfield, WI, sisters Lois Turner and Eleanor (Jack) Wisner, brother Howard Bushweiler, grandchildren Lori (Michael) Tompkins, Aaron (Tonia) Spees, Jason (Britney) Spees, Jennifer Spees and Adam Spees, great-grandchildren Seth (Rachel) Tompkins, Olivia Tompkins and Chloe Tompkins, and great-great-grandson Gabriel Tompkins. Irene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank Wild Rose Hospital, Agnesian Hospice Care, and especially the caring and loving staff at Rosemore Village in Wild Rose.
Irene's life will be celebrated with an 11 a.m. service Wednesday, February 5, at Grace United Methodist Church, N2133 Southgate Terrace, Wautoma, WI. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Fish Lake Cemetery, Hancock in the spring. A Memorial has been established for Grace United Methodist Church, Wautoma.
