Irene Anna Daye, age 91, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Matthews Medical Center, Matthews, North Carolina.
She was born June 3, 1922 in the Town of Dakota, the daughter of Albert and Martha (Moldenhauer) Wagner. She married Vilas H. Daye on June 19, 1948 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Crystal Lake. He preceded her in death on February 9, 1994.
Irene was a graduate of Wautoma High School, Waushara County Normal School and UW-Stevens Point. She taught at the former Blader School in the Town of Dakota for several years as well as at Wautoma Public Schools, including Dafoe School. Irene and her late husband farmed in the Town of Richford for many years before moving to Wautoma in 1981. She moved to North Carolina in 2000, to be with her daughter. She was a longtime member of Crossroads Family Church. She attended Central Church of God in Charlotte, NC. Irene's greatest joy was being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter, JoEllen (John) Johnson, Waxhaw, NC; three grandchildren, Jerilyn Johnson, a student at Central Piedmont Community College, Julia Johnson, a student at Wingate University, Wingate, NC, and Josiah Johnson, at home; one brother, Marvin Wagner Sr., Wautoma; her brother-in-law, Lloyd (Mildred) Daye, Wautoma; sister-in-law, Bernadine Bobholz, Friesland. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marsha Renee Daye; her parents; brother, William Wagner, and sister-in-law, Ingrid Wagner.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Crossroads Family Church in Wautoma with Rev. Mark Broberg, pastor of Good News Assembly of God, Ishpeming, MI, officiating. Burial will be in Richford Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.
