Ida Lucia Gerdes, age 88, of Wautoma peacefully passed away early Wednesday morning, October 19, 2011 at Heartland House, CBRF surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Springfield, MA on May 6, 1923, the daughter of Peter and Maria (Morelli) Lucia. Ida was united in marriage to Roland D. Gerdes on August 16, 1947 in Springfield, MA.
Upon her graduation from the Moody Bible Institute in 1947, she served the Lord beside her husband of 64 years in Child Evangelism and the churches he pastored.
With her warm and caring spirit she welcomed both young and old to share her devotion to her Lord and Savior and her abundant love for all.
She is lovingly survived by her husband Roland D. Gerdes; two children Paul Robert (Pam) Gerdes and Mary Lou Gerdes (William) Rutter. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah Rutter, Carrie Rutter, Emily (Lewis Horn) Rutter, Zebulun Rutter, Charise (Mark) Clark, Melissa Gerdes, Denise Gerdes, Jeremy Meyer, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers Angelo Lucia, Joseph Lucia, Albert Lucia and one sister, Louise Palmquist.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
