Howard W. Simenson, age 88, formerly of Wautoma, passed away Monday, August 12, 2019 at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital in Weston.
He was born October 28, 1930 in the Town of Mount Morris, the son of Earl and Viola (Winge) Simenson. He married the former Lillian M. Mace on May 29, 1954 at Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2019.
He served his country in the U.S. Army. Howard and his wife farmed for 41 years in the Town of Deerfield, growing their small farm to over 200 head of Holsteins and 500 acres. They hosted Waushara County’s first June Dairy Breakfast on their homestead in 1988. After they retired from farming, he and his wife were active with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in the America Mission Builders program. They were proud to have worked on 15 church building projects from 1993 until 2003.
Howard was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church in the Town of Deerfield. He belonged to Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plover. He served as a Waushara County Board Supervisor and was a member of the Zoning Committee for many years. Howard was active on the Church Council, Dairy Breakfast Committee, Farm Bureau, and Farm Progress Days Committee.
He is survived by two children, Wayne Simenson, Amherst and Brenda (Shannon) Riley, Janesville; two grandchildren, Cole Riley and Kera Riley, both of Janesville. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma. Burial will follow at Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma or Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Plover.
