Herbert Christian Henne, age 95, of Wautoma, passed away Tuesday evening, May 14, 2013, at Heartland House in Wautoma. He was born November 25, 1917 in the Township of Richford, the son of Richard E. and Emma (Schwanke) Henne. He married Edna A. Marotz on October 18, 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Westfield. He and his wife farmed in the Town of Richford for many years. Herb was very important in the lives of people with disabilities. When Waushara Industries was first incorporated (formerly called Waushara County Opportunity Center) he was on the Board of Directors. He was instrumental in developing educational programs and opportunities for people with disabilities. In addition to developing work programs, he and Edna as well as other parents formed Waushara County Association for Retarded Citizens as well as the Waushara County Chapter of Special Olympics. Throughout his life, Herb cared deeply for all people but especially those with special needs. He will be greatly missed by all in this community who knew him and his good work. He was a longtime active member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Richford. While living in Oshkosh, he was a faithful volunteer at Christine Ann's domestic abuse shelter and All Saints Lutheran Church. Herb was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, FS Cooperative, Waushara County Farm Bureau and Kiwanis. He is survived by his wife, Edna Henne; three daughters, Barbara (Ron) Hennings, DeForest, Patricia (Steve) Power, Richford, and Mary Beth (Richard) Barkow, Wautoma; two grandchildren, Brian (Aimee) Hennings and Keith (Wendy) Hennings; five great grandchildren, Marleigh, Kara, Elsa, Jack, and Evelyn; one sister, Evelyn (the late Ralph) Davis, Evanston, IL. He is further survived by other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandra Henne; his grand- daughter, Brenda Barkow, and by his parents. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma with Rev. Nathan A. Gauerke officiating. Burial will be in Richford Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
