Henry James Kollock, age 79, of rural Bancroft, passed away peacefully at his residence, Wednesday morning, May 29, 2013.
Jim was born March 30, 1934 in Stevens Point, the son of Henry and Luella (Whitman) Kollock. He married the love of his life, Judith Ann Diver, on September 19, 1959 at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together.
Mr. Kollock grew up and lived on the family farm in Bancroft. He was a lifelong member of St. Martin's Catholic Church and later, St. Maximilian Kolbe. He attended and graduated from Tri-County public schools. After graduation he served his apprenticeship and became a journeyman millwright for Consolidated Papers. He left the mill to farm in the town of Almond. In the early 70's his vision of building a campground in Bancroft was fulfilled. Jim and Judy ran Vista Royalle Campground for over 30 years, and it is still operated by family today. He was very active in the community: serving as a Portage County Jury Commissioner, a member of the Portage County Board of Adjustment, the Bancroft Lions Club, WACO Board President, and he was a member of the Tri-County school board for 15 years, serving as president for 12 of those years. Jim enjoyed traveling to many different places and countries and wintering in Arizona, playing cards with close friends and family, and the "occasional" trip to the casino. In his retirement he loved to attend his grandchildren's concerts and sporting events.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judith Ann Kollock, Bancroft; five children, Kevin (JoNe') Kollock, Minneapolis, Chris (Jill) Kollock, Bancroft, Kim (Matt) Weiss, Bancroft, Jim (Renee) Kollock, Wisconsin Rapids, Scott (Diane) Kollock, Bancroft, and eleven grandchildren: Avery, Hannah, Cassandra, Marta, Jeffry, Devin, Isaac, Trent, Noah, Annie, & Elijah. He is further survived by his sisters, Alice (Gene) Polly & Patricia (Bill) Trieble, brothers, William (Carol) Kollock & Robert (Patricia) Kollock, brother-in-law, William Goodness, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many special friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Luella, his sister, Kathleen, and brother-in-law, Bill Trieble. He will forever be remembered for his large heart, quick wit, and the sparkle in his eyes. Jim was a Jack of all Trades; if he couldn't fix it or make it, you didn't need it. He never knew a stranger and he was always ready with a hug and a smile.
