Gustav Grewe, age 83, of Plainfield, passed away Tuesday morning, March 27, 2012. He was born July 27, 1928 in Mosinee, the son of Gustave T. and Martha
(Beyer) Grewe. He married the former Joyce L. Ford on May 22, 1949 in Hoopeston, IL. She preceded him in death on March 24, 2011. Gustav served his country in the United States Marine Corps. from 1945 until 1946. He farmed near Hortonville and later Plainfield for many years. Gustav also worked for the Township of Plainfield for sometime. He enjoyed woodworking in his hobby shop and playing cards, especially poker and pinochle. He was an active member of the Plainfield VFW Post 6007. He is survived by three children, Linda Holz, Washington, IA, Lesley Grewe, Menasha, Leonard (Maxine) Grewe, West Bloomfield; six grandchildren, Jonathan Holz, Milwaukee, Pamela Holz, Washington, IA, Annette (Michael) Jacobs, St. Louis, MO, Bethany (Gram) Eubank, Appleton, Daniel (Kristen) Grewe, Winneconne, and Constance (Ramsey) Greene, Louisville, KY; 12 great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Merritt, Rossville, IL. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters and five brothers. A Veterans Tribute will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Plainfield VFW Hall. Relatives and friends are invited to the family farm following the service. The family wishes to thank the staff of Rosemore Village especially, Dawn and Jeamie for their loving care of Gustav and to Melinda for caring for his cat, Millie.
