George Hans Eberle, age 79 of Wautoma, died on Sunday, March 19, 2017. He was born in Chicago on August 14, 1937 to Hans and Betty (Kuebal) Eberle. After graduating from St. Michael’s High School, George joined the U.S. Navy. Serving during the Eisenhower Administration, he made 28 Pacific crossings aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown, U.S.S. Cape Esperance and LST 1157. He was honorably discharged after 4 years of service. George then married Marlene Engelking in Chicago on May 4, 1963. The couple enjoyed traveling to Europe, Caribbean and Hawaii. He worked at Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a Manager and retired in 1992. In July of 1995 the couple moved to Wautoma.  George enjoyed photography, bowling, fishing, boating and spending time in nature and working outdoors. He was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. George was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma.

George is survived by his daughter: Noelle (Rob) DeVito; grandson: Matthew DeVito; sisters-in-law: Audrey Hess-Eberle, Lorel (Bill) Boesch; brother-in-law: Leroy (Jen) Engelking; cousins: Margaret Hutchings, Peter (Mary Sue) Eberle; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Marlene Eberle on December 24, 2011 and brother: Richard Eberle.

Private family services will be held at Wautoma Union Cemetery with entombment in the columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wautoma in George’s name.
