Eugene S. "Gene" West, age 75, of Wautoma, passed away Sunday morning, February 26, 2012 at the Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital. He was born August 2, 1936 at Green Bay, the son of Eugene J. and Alice R. (Kapalczynski) West. He married Nancy A. Perry on August 22, 1959 at Fort Knox, Kentucky. Gene was a 1954 graduate of St. Norbert High School in Green Bay. He attended St. Norbert College before becoming a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard. He served with the 32nd Red Arrow Transportation Division. Gene was employed by the United States Postal Service in Wautoma for 33 years until his retirement in 1997. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fly fishing, bowling, playing cards, golfing and slow pitch softball. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Trout Unlimited and the Wautoma Jaycees. He will be fondly remembered for his fly tying and by the guys of The Association of Old Anglers and various other Derelicts and Liars. He is survived by his wife, Nancy A. West, Wautoma; six children, Jacki (Richard) Scholze, Burlington, John (Mike Fendt) West, Friendship, Carrie West, Wautoma, Paul West, Yelm, Washington, Steve West, Oshkosh, Vicki (Sam) Santacroce, Elkhorn; eight grandchildren, Tomena and Jakob Scholze, Tara and Brooke Neumann, Christopher Grinnals, Nicole West, Austin and Amanda West; six great grandchildren, Trevelyan, Delylah, Lydia, Liberty, Damien, and Hayden; two sisters, Mary (Frank) Pica, Wautoma, Kathleen (Juergen) Krueger, Melbourne Beach, Florida; one brother, Glenn (Carolyn) West, Wautoma; two brothers-in-law, George (Maureen) Perry, Wautoma,
Francis (Linda) Perry, Wautoma; six sisters-in-law, Pat (John) Hassmann, Wautoma, Jane (Boyd) Simonson, Waupaca, Susan (Mike) Rios, Appleton, Kathie (Ralph) Coerper, Almond, Jean (Dale) Armstrong, Wautoma, Carol (Dennis) Lauer, Plover. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by twin children Connie and Perry in infancy, and by his parents. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 2, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wautoma with Rev. Robert L. Stegmann officiating. Relatives and friends may greet the family from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Church.
