Emma T. Weeks, age 104, of Wautoma, passed away March 3, 2010 at Silver Lake Manor.
She was born April 6, 1905 to the late H. Martin and Thora (Hesness) Engelbretson. She was baptized and confirmed in the West Holden Lutheran Church and continued her membership there until May 26, 1968, when she transferred her membership to the Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma. She attended the rural Lovdahl School, graduating in June of 1919. She was a graduate of the Waushara County Teachers Training School, graduating in June of 1922. Following graduation, she was a Waushara County rural school teacher until the time of her marriage. On November 25, 1926 she married Marvin F. Weeks. He preceded her in death September 21, 1989.
She and her husband spent most of their life on the farm where they worked together on her husband's various projects. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading, some artwork and her several hobbies.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia (the late, Gaylord) Brunner of Greendale and Geraldine (Richard) Burgess of Madison; five grandsons, Paul Burgess of New Albin, Iowa, Steven Burgess of Madison, John (Sharon) Brunner of Cudahy, Mark Brunner of Greendale, Timothy (Becky) Brunner of South Milwaukee, and one granddaughter, Hollis Jane (Bruce Salzman) Brunner of Mequon; four great grandchildren, Jennifer (Eliseo), Beth, Sean (Lisa) and Dan (Andrea); three great-great grandchildren, Laila, Gavin and Fiona; one niece, Joanne (Dr. Charles) Pace of Portage. Further survived by other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in by her parents, sisters Bertha C. Merker and Selma A. Marcy, an infant brother, Charlie, a nephew, Harlo Hanneman and a son-in-law, Gaylord Brunner.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2010 in the Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma with the Rev. Nathan A. Gauerke officiating. The soloist was Lee Bendixen who sang two hymns, "Just a Closer Walk with Thee", and "Going Home". She was laid to rest next to her husband in the Wautoma Union Cemetery. To honor Mrs. Week's wishes, there will be no visitation. The pallbearers were John Brunner, Paul Burgess, Mark Brunner, Steven Burgess, Timothy Brunner and Holly Brunner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Diabetes Association or Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to thank Linda Zimmerman and all the staff at Silver Lake Manor for the loving care they provided Emma's for the past 16 years.
