Elwood Buschke

June 13, 1915 — July 5, 2011

Elwood A. Buschke, at the age of 96 passed away on July 5, 2011 at Berlin Memorial Hospital. Elwood was born June 13, 1915 to Fred and Nellia (Humphrey) Buschke in Coloma, Wisconsin. He graduated from Hancock High School on June 1, 1934. He married Marjorie Runnels on November 23, 1938 in Montello, Wisconsin.

Elwood and Marjorie farmed in the Township of Deerfield and Coloma until 1952 when they moved to Westfield farming in the Russel Flats area. Later, they bought a farm from Max Weiland in Springfield Township. They retired from farming in 1978. Elwood continued to farm, working for Hockerman Bros. and later for the Buchholz Farms. Marjorie preceded Elwood in death on August 24, 1994.

Elwood had a great love of dancing where he met and later married Lucille Markurat on Oct. 26, 1996. As Elwood's Alzheimer's progressed, it became necessary to move to Heartland House in Wautoma in September 2008, where he remained until his time of death.

Elwood is survived by his wife Lucille, daughter Idella (Vernon) Endthoff; three grandchildren, Debra Dahl of Naples, FL, Mark (Karen) Weir, Bonita Springs, FL, Gary Weir of Westfield; great grandchildren, Amber Brakebush, Westfield, Brandon Dahl, Madison, Shanna Weir, Madison, Tyler and Janel Weir, Coloma, Stephine Huff, Bonita Springs, FL; great-great grandchildren, Trinity Jade and Lyric, Westfield; sister, Verna Shead, Neshkoro; step son, Ralph Makurat; step grandchildren, Scott (Ashley) Makurat, Kay (Jay) Willams; step great grandchildren, Carter and Riley Makurat. Many other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.

Elwood was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Nellia Buschke, brother and sisters-in-law, Eldon and Muriel Buschke, Dorm and Irma Runnels, and brother-in-law, Lawrence Shead, and a nephew, Gary Buschke; mother and father-in-law, Robert DC and Hazel Runnels. A celebration of life will be held on July 16, 2011 at Faith United Methodist Church in Westfield at 12:00 p.m. Burial was at Hillside Cemetery in Coloma, WI.
