Elvin A. Bartel. Age 94, of Wautoma, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at Berlin Memorial Hospital. He was born February 2, 1918 in the Township of Richford, the son of Carl and Anna (Brown) Bartel. He married the former Kathryn E. Johnson on November 17, 1943 in Wautoma. She preceded him in death on December 20, 2005. Elvin was a graduate of Wautoma High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. Elvin worked at J.I. Case Corp. of Racine for several years. Later, he was employed by the Waushara County Highway Department. Elvin was a longtime sales agent for Aid Association for Lutherans (AAL) now known as Thrivent Financial. He was a faithful member of Peace Lutheran Church in Wautoma where he also was a 50 year member of the choir. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a former member of the Wautoma Fire Dept. He is survived by one son, David Bartel, Challis, Idaho; three grand- children, Terrill Tappan, Challis, Idaho, Virginia (Chris) Stroupe, Yakima, Washington, and Marina (Michael) Laws, Challis, Idaho; seven great grandchildren, Jordan, Thearon, Dillen, Brandon, Christopher, Abigayle, and Kenzie; one brother, Gilbert Bartel, St. Paul, Minnesota; one sister, Mildred Bauers, Racine. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, and by one brother, Lawrence Bartel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 12 Noon in Peace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Riedel officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Wautoma Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A memorial is being established.
