Ellen S. Bartels, age 95 of Wautoma, passed away early Wednesday morning October 19, 2011 at Heartland House, Wautoma.
She was born June 6, 1916 in Eland, WI, the daughter of Nels and Mary (Larson) Anderson. She married Kenneth F. Bartels on August 7, 1939 in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1979.
Ellen graduated from Central State Teachers College in Stevens Point where she met her husband Ken. For several years she taught in Moundville, she then followed her husband to several school districts where he was a teacher and administrator and she had various secretarial and music related jobs. Ellen and her husband later settled in the Wautoma area in 1951 where her husband was Superintendent of the Wautoma Area School District. She and her husband owned and operated Bartels School and Office Supply in Wautoma for many years.
Ellen was a faithful and devoted member of Hope Lutheran Church in Wautoma and had a deep love for music. She was a long-time organist, junior choir director and choir member at the Church; she also was an accompanist for the Wautoma High School Solo Ensemble for many years. Ellen will also be remembered for her Rosemaling art, and was a lifetime member of the Mid Wisconsin Rosemalers. She also created Christmas ornaments and ceramics art work, which she shared with many people in the community.
She is survived by her son, Doug (Sandy) Bartels, Wautoma; two granddaughters, Julie (Eric) Goldapske, Beth (Sean) Macklem; four great- grandchildren, Kiley and Nathan Goldapske, Brandon and Ashton Macklem; one cousin Ardys Hipke, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph (Cora) Anderson, Charles (Marion) Anderson, one sister, Arlene (Lloyd) Olson and one nephew Roger Anderson. She was further preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Harlan and Irving Bartels and one sister-in-law Merna Janisch.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Ellen S. Bartels will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 1:00pm in Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma with Rev. Nathan A. Gauerke officiating. She will be laid to reside beside her husband in Hope Lutheran Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday from 11:00am until the time of services at the Church.
In lieu of flowers memorials to Hope Lutheran Church, Wautoma and Agnesian Hospice, Fond du Lac are appreciated.
The family wishes to thank Agnesian Hospice Care and the staff at Heartland House for the amazing care they gave to Ellen.
