Duane H. Corning, age 88, of Wautoma, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, June 23, 2012, at Bethel Home, Oshkosh. He was born July 8, 1923 in Wautoma, the son of Harley L. and Bessie A. (Trexell) Corning. He married the former Hazel Skinner on October 18, 1947 in Slater, Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 1, 2003. Duane was a graduate of Wautoma High School. He served his country in the European Theater during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. Later, he founded Corning Electric of Wautoma and worked as an electrician in the area for many years. Duane was also employed as a mail carrier for the United States Post Office in Wautoma until his retirement. He enjoyed playing golf and making annual fishing trips to Canada. He was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wautoma. Duane belonged to Wautoma Masonic Lodge 148 F.& A.M., Wautoma Chapter 198 Order of the Eastern Star and Wolman/Minskey American Legion Post 317 of Wautoma and the Wautoma Fire Department. He is survived by four children, Bruce (Darlene) Corning, Appleton, Brent (Elizabeth) Corning, Wautoma, Becky (Glenn) Kleba, Pewaukee, Beth (Bruce) Wacholtz, Neshkoro; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Steve) Toc, Jason (Jessica) Corning, Tamara (Valerio Martone) Corning, Collin Corning,
Aaron (Tiffany) Skoluda, Lori (TJ) Rinaldi, Tyler Wacholtz, Jamie (Sam) Tomlin, and Chad (Kimberly) Happersett; nine great grandchildren, Jordan, Morgan, Nicholas, Ella, Allana, Corinne, Jacob, Shaelyn, and Lilee. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved sister, Bunny Christie on April 15, 2012. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. George J. Kafer officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in the Town of Dakota. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma and at the Church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Masonic and Eastern Star Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m. The family wishes to thank Dr. Edward Lake and associates along with the Dialysis Center staff at Oshkosh and Wautoma for their compassionate care.
