Duane Carson Apps, age 76 of Plainfield passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023 at their home, with his family by his side. He was born on January 10, 1947 in Milwaukee to Ronald and Betty (Baugher) Apps. He joined the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged.

On September 19, 1970 he married Dorothy Hughes at the Saxeville Baptist church.  They were married over 52 years.

Duane graduated from U.W. Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in Teaching. He taught Elementary School for Wild Rose School district for 26 years, and some of those he taught the Wild Rose summer Migrant Program.

He was a member of the NRA and Wisconsin Trappers Association. Duane favorite pastime was hunting, fishing, and trapping. He would only share his favorite fishing holes and best tree stand locations with a special friend or two!

As the family grew, so did his garden plans. Everyone had their favorite vegetable rows to keep weeded and helped freezing and canning. His blueberry patch was shared with friends whenever there was a good yield. He learned how to make wine and the blueberry was every one’s favorite. Duane and his family spent time in the backyard creating a pond that became his favorite spot, especially in the spring when the frogs got wound up, singing in the evenings.

Duane worked at The Clausen Family Music Show for over eight years. He enjoyed greeting and meeting new people and loved playing Santa at the end of each Christmas Show.

For the last 36 years Duane was on the Town of Rose Board. He started in 1987 as the treasurer through 1995, and then was chairman from 1995 to 2023. If asked who lived where and what road, he rarely had to look it up. He’d disappear for a short time, just going out and check on road conditions, and maybe stop and have a beer with a neighbor. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Duane is survived by his wife: Dorothy Apps; children: Jason Apps (finance: Tonya Platta) Alesha Apps; grandson: Trevor Platta; brother: Randy (Jayne) Apps; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Betty Apps.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
