Dorothy Schmechel

Dorothy J. Schmechel, age 94, of Wautoma, passed away Thursday morning, November 15, 2012, at her daughter's home in Wautoma. She was born December 27, 1917 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Peter and Ida (Kuehl) Petersen. She married George H. Schmechel on June 24, 1939 in Milwaukee. He preceded her in death on August 28, 2003. Dorothy and her late husband resided in Milwaukee for many years before moving to Wautoma in 1978. She was an active member of Waushara/Wautoma Senior Citizens. Dorothy enjoyed helping assemble the monthly Loose Ends newsletter for the Commission on Aging. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wautoma. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra (Randall) Graf, Markesan and Janice (Lawrence) Barzyk, Wautoma; her daughter-in-law, Jean Schmechel, Richfield; six grandchildren, Wendy Nicolato, Kenneth (Jean) Schmechel, Jody (Lon) Matejczyk, Joel Graf, Keith (Elizabeth) Barzyk, and Kristin (Michael) Shea; eight great grandchildren, Nicole Nicolato, Lucas and Aaron Schmechel, Cole, Anya and Tess Matejczyk, McKenna Barzyk and Lauren Shea; one great-great grandson, Anthony Nicolato. She is further survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Roland Schmechel, and by her parents. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 12 noon at Leikness Funeral Home in Wautoma with Rev. Gregory D. Hyatt officiating. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Gardens in Milwaukee. Visitation will be held on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
