Donald R. "Red" Edwards, age 78, of Wild Rose, passed away early Saturday morning, February 18, 2012 at Heartland House.
He was born August 27, 1933 in Menasha, the son of Robert and Lawrena "Lorraine" (Kropp) Edwards. Don was a graduate of Wautoma High School and a member of the 1948 Football Team. He married Betty Jane Scovell on May 9, 1953 in E.U.B. Church, Neshkoro, where he was also baptized and confirmed.
Donald served his country in the United States Army and the National Guard. For a number of years he worked on his family farm in the Town of Marion and was recognized by the Jaycees as an Outstanding Young Farmer in Waushara County. Don and his wife Betty owned and operated D&B Motors in Wautoma for several years and he also was employed at Oshkosh Truck for 30 years as a Senior Service Technician.
Don had a love of motorcycles and was a lifetime member of the Gold Wing Roadriders where he and his wife were the Regional Couple of the Year in 1996. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Packers, Badgers and NASCAR races. He will be fondly remembered for his craftsmanship in turning old junk into works of yard art. Don was a devoted family man and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Betty J. Edwards, Wild Rose; three children Kathleen (Alan) Blencoe, Holmen; Bryen (Debra) Edwards, Wild Rose and Allen (Dawn) Edwards, Oshkosh; two grandchildren Rael (Bert) Yauch, Baraboo, Rae Anna Edwards, Baraboo and one great-grandchild, Wyatt Olson. He is further survived by three sisters-in-law Barbara Wedde, Wautoma; Bernice (Gordon) Marks, Wautoma and Bernadyne (Darrell) Schultz, Neshkoro, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law Hugh and Pearl Scovell and one brother-in-law Arden Wedde.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 11:00am in the Leikness Funeral Home, Wautoma.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of services at the Funeral Home.
