Coreen Edith Bissell, age 56, of La Crosse, passed away Wednesday evening, June 18, 2014 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with scleroderma.
She was born May 14, 1958 in Janesville, Wisconsin to Judith Marlyn (Storlie) Hirst. The oldest of nine children, she grew up in Plainfield, Wisconsin with her parents and brothers and sisters. She married Theodore R. (Randy) Bissell III on September 6, 1980 and later gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Rachel Coreen and Stephanie Mae.
She attended Tri-County High School in Plainfield, WI and later attended Viterbo University in La Crosse, WI. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Viterbo in 1980. She worked at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for 23 years as a Medical Oncology nurse and for six years in Nursing Education.
Her extraordinary compassion for others guided her professional life and was felt by all in her personal life through her care and devotion to her family. She was the heart and soul of her family and cherished all moments, big and small, that she spent with them. She loved life and never took a moment for granted. She loved bowling with the "Bowling Girls," gardening, playing games with her family, and going to church.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore R. (Randy) Bissell III, of La Crosse; her daughter Rachel (Kenneth) Kearney, of Madison, WI; and her daughter Stephanie, also of Madison, WI. She is further survived by her mother, of Plainfield, brothers David W. (Yolanda), Douglas L., Rickie E., and Kirk N. Hirst and sisters Jody L. (Corey) Golla, Angela C. (Jeff) Stahl, and Emmy A. Hirst and many other relatives and special friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Neal Hirst, and her brother, Larry N. Hirst II.
To honor and celebrate Coreen's life, visitation and services will be held at Olivet Beacon of Light Lutheran Church on French Island, 2100 Bainbridge St., in La Crosse, WI. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 24 from 4:00-7:00pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 25 at 11:00am preceded by a visitation at 10:00am. Pastors Luanne Sorenson and David Baldukas will officiate.
